Traveling books are passed on from one reader to the next. They are let loose into the world for people to find or can be given from one person to another. These books are not lost, they're free!
Have you ever thought of the romantic idea of a message in a bottle? As a reader or a writer, it's a tantalizing thought what may lie inside and who might have written it. Books are glorious things and the chance to find and read something that has passes many hands is just as exciting!
How does this all happen, you ask? Well, there is a special website called www.bookcrossing.com where books are registered by members and each is given a special Book Crossing ID number. Then, the number is placed inside of the book, like so:
Then, whoever finds the book can enter the BCID number and see where the book has been and who else has read it.
Book Crossing is an exciting way to pass on books that you no longer need to hold on to and allow them to be enjoyed far and wide. You are able to track where your book goes and who finds and reads it.
I am a recent addition to Book Crossing and have sent out my first books today to people in three different states of America and to South Australia.
I hope many of you will join me in gaining some awesome book karma and setting books free to travel the world!
Are any of you out there members of Book Crossing already? How do you find it?
