Baited by Bookmarks

Reading a book always feels like an accomplishment. I'm taking in new information and embarking on unexpected adventures. Just being able to see how big of a chunk I have taken out of a book fills me with satisfaction.

Without physically chomping down on a book to show the remainder of the story I have to read (a strange but tantalizing thought) there is one eternal tool to show me just how much of the book I have completed - the bookmark. Sure, these days you can keep track of your reading process online by having websites calculate what percentage of the book you have read based on what page you are on...but it just doesn't cut it for me. I always liked pie charts more than fractions.

I have a little bit of an obsession when it comes to bookmarks. I'm always scouring through racks in bookstores to find fancy new ones. Sure, I've already got a hoard of them at home but with my tendency to read multiple books at once and the desire for my bookmarks to flee when I need them most (Why? I treat them well!) I can always use a few more.

Fancy bookmarks are an extension of my bookish obsession and one thing eBooks just can't offer. Particularly when the bookmarks in question play host to a character I adore or a book cover I am already enamoured by.

Do you have a love for bookmarks? Which is your particular favourite?
Did I mention I had a hoard of bookmarks? I'm giving away these to one lucky winner:

I have one bookmark I'm particularly in love with: a purple and black butterfly-themed one I picked up last year at the bookstore. And I still have it. Which is kind of a record for me and bookmarks <3

The best one I own is my Ophilia painting one, its is one of those nice long ones with the sleeves but if I could have anything on one, it would be quillbert :p

I cross-stitched a fancy bookmark for myself, and did some for family and friends as well. It takes time, but I feel a little bit of pride every time I read :-)

What a cool giveaway! Like Audrey above, I have a bookmark that I cross stitched for myself. I bought it in Ireland years ago. I also have one that my friend and I stamped when I was about 8.

I'm always a fan of bookmarks with puppies :-) But really any bookmark.

My daughter made me a fab bookmark. The main part (that stays in the book) is the yellow brick road, with the stocking leg, and ruby slipper of Wicked Witch (from Wizard of Oz) poking out through the pages. A lovely Xmas keepsake.

My favorite bookmark is a crocheted cross done in gold thread. One of my own projects. I gave one like it to my mother to use. She is 93 and still reading.

Blessings,
Barb

I mainly read ebooks now so I don't use bookmarks. When I did use them I'd generally use anything at hand like business cards, birthday cards, boarding passes, lol.

My Divergent bookmarks are definitely my all time favorites, but I'm pretty obsessed with them, in general. I've never made my own, but I really want/need to :)

I have some bookmarks with my kids pictures on them - my oldest has her senior pictures, while my youngest is a sports picture and it looks like a ticket. I still need one with my granddaughter on it.

The best bookmark I have ever received was from the book Masquerade by Cambria Hebert! I was ecstatic when I received the bookmark because I never expected that I would win the bookmark!

I would love to have a bookmark with a dark background and something glittering on it.
